Laragon is a blazing fast and robust program that allows developers to set up and launch local offline WordPress installs in minutes, no hours. Similar to tools XAMPP and MAMP, Laragon allows WordPress developers to quickly install and launch an offline WordPress installation for local development.
You may be wondering what’s the point of getting Laragon if you’re already using XAMPP for offline WordPress development. The biggest differences between these two tools are Laragon’s quick app feature and pretty URLs. The quick app feature automatically downloads, installs and sets up a WordPress installation in one click, saving hours of work. Additionally, the pretty URLs feature gets rid of the “localhost/url” and replaces it with the much better “.test” TLD (Top Level Domain).
Of course, Laragon is used for more than WordPress, but this is a blog focused mainly on WordPress design, so that’s what I’ll be covering.

My favourite features
I was using XAMPP to set up local development environments for my WordPress installs because that’s what I learned in school. I always hated slow and clunky XAMPP felt, and when I heard about Laragon in a YouTube, I had to test it out. Suffice to say; I was blown away with how fast Laragon was, how easy it was to set up and launch projects. I don’t see myself ever going back to XAMPP.
Unlike XAMPP, Laragon replaces those ugly http://localhost/yourwebsite URLs with a much more attractive http://yourwebsite.test. Of course, you can always type http://localhost to see all your created websites.
One click install for WordPress
Laragon allows users to install WordPress and set-up the databases with Laragon’s quick app feature. Just fill in your login details, and you’re good to go! I find this very useful when compared to XAMPP, where I had to set up the database, download and install WordPress before I was able to start working.
